MWIR & LWIR cooled high speed cameras

What is high speed imaging by MWIR & LWIR cameras?

High speed midwave & longwave infrared (MWIR & LWIR) cooled cameras are used in various high speed thermography applications. In general, these applications focus on capturing the thermal radiation of any object within the field of view (FOV) of the camera. All this at a very high speed with several hundreds of frames per seconds.

What are MWIR & LWIR cooled high speed cameras used for?

High speed imaging using a MWIR or LWIR cooled camera is a typical request from the R&D and Safety & Security markets. In an R&D environment, fast moving objects like car tires on a testing bench require a quick analysis of very swift temperature changes. For customers active in the Safety & Security market, these cameras are used to track the hot exhausts of airplanes or rocket engines.

What do we offer?

For high speed thermography with MWIR cooled cameras we offer our Onca-MWIR-InSb MWIR camera. For high speed thermography in the longwave infrared we offer our Onca-LWIR-MCT-384. Both these cameras are Stirling cooled thermal cameras that guarantee the best image quality in all conditions.

Powerful core electronics

A key element of our mid- & long wave infrared Onca cameras are the detectors. They are able to detect ultra-low temperature differences (as low as 17 mK) in a capturing mode at several hundred frames per second. In case this is still not sufficient, you can further increase the frame rate by windowing the detector. This results in one or multiple sub-windows read-out on the detector.

Every thermal scene is unique. Therefore it is necessary to adjust the integration time, the imaging speed – especially in sub-windowing mode – as well as the temperature range and detector sensitivity to the thermal scene.

Interfaces

Besides powerful core electronics, a rugged high speed data interface like CameraLink is required. This interface assures a fast and complete data transfer to the PC, such that no frames of your image sequence are lost.

Lenses

As it is important for some customers, we offer our Onca cameras with a wide selection of interchangeable lenses.

Typical Safety & Security users will not require interchangeable lenses as the camera is built into a dedicated system. These customers typically want a ruggedized camera core with one dedicated lens, able to withstand high shock and vibration levels. Therefore we offer our XCO-640 MWIR cooled core.

What features are needed?

  • Small pixel size
A smaller pixel size results in smaller detectors - resulting in lower sensor production costs, smaller optics and eventually smaller cameras
  • High frame rate
High frame rates allow us to capture fast moving objects
  • High thermal sensitivity
Thermal cameras need to have a high sensitivity level (low NETD) to detect the smallest temperature differences
  • Easy connectivity
We offer several different interfaces for an easy integration into your system
  • Extended MWIR & LWIR wavelength range
We offer both MWIR & (V)LWIR cooled cameras for high speed thermography applications
  • Sensor temperature stabilization or cooling
All our MWIR cameras are Stirling cooled for stable performance
  • Wide variety of lenses available
We offer a wide variety of lenses from microscopic lenses to big F/4 lenses
